I am in the navel of the planet, Ecuador. I am a rock, comics, horror movies and french fries lover. Most of my days, I enjoy spending time with my children and my wife. The rest of the time, I photograph crazy lovers who take a risk and trust my vision. |
HOW DID YOU GET STARTED IN PHOTOGRAPHY?
My first contact with a camera was for university projects, in 2004. With my girlfriend, who is now my wife, we visited Otavalo, an ancestral city of indigenous people. The objective was to carry out an editorial project. She did the texts and I did the graphic part, merging design with photography. I never imagined that I would become a wedding photographer.
HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR STYLE?
I think I haven’t found my style yet. I simply pay tribute to people and films that touch my vision. I am happy breaking rules, not doing the traditional things. I like to have fun, to experiment and see the results. Sometimes, the results are photographs I am really proud of.
WHAT DO YOU LOOK FOR IN AN IMAGE?
Visual cleaning, composition and connection. Play with symbols and semiotics. That couples and mostly their emotions are the protagonists of the picture. Even though the landscape and scenery are important elements, what needs to be highlighted are the feelings of the moment.
WHAT INSPIRES OR MOTIVATES YOU?
My main engine is my family. I feel fulfilled covering their economic needs doing what I love. I give 100% at each wedding, for them. I feel my children in every click. I think of a future of many opportunities for them. I want them to know that you can live doing what you like and that you can have fun at work.
WHAT CHALLENGES YOU?
Exceeding my expectations, continuing to support my family with a camera and, of course, being the father and husband that my family deserves.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE MOMENT OF A WEDDING?
Portraits, at the same time, it is the most difficult thing. They blow my mind. Many times, I do not know where to start or what to do. I like portraits because I am free to play and interact with the couple. It's the time when I can break the rules and rock.
OF ALL YOUR IMAGES, DO YOU HAVE A FAVORITE ONE?
I like them all. In each one I remember how much I battled until the photo I had in mind came out. It is difficult to find the right partner to risk something different, that's why they are all my favorites.
ANYTHING ELSE WE SHOULD KNOW ABOUT ALEXIS?
I never imagined getting here. Being a wedding photographer and having the honor of being published in this blog is something very special. As a child I wanted to be a drummer in a rock band, but I was not born with the gift of music. I studied graphic design. I dreamed of illustrating comics and creating a fantasy world full of monsters, ghosts and superheroes. But fate brought me here and I feel very fortunate about this.
TELL US ABOUT DVLOP
I have tried many presets throughout my career and very rarely have I stayed with them so much, until I came across DVLOP. Now, they are the only ones that I use, and I feel very comfortable with them. The workflow is autonomous and fast. I am fascinated by the consistency of the tones in all the photos, whether they are exterior, interior, with flash or without flash. I really enjoy combining the presets and playing with the tone curve.
